You've experienced how some environments you are in feel great and others don't, right? Have you also noticed that you and others behave differently depending on the environment you are in?
Can you imagine what might be possible if you spent most (or dare we say all) your time looking at, hearing, smelling, and interacting with people and things that made you feel good?
One of the most grounding and inspiring things you can do for yourself is to have the environments around you support who you are and what you want. So, let's spend some time discovering and creating your ideal environment!
First Things First ...
- Create at least 30 minutes of uninterrupted time for yourself (and don't have a meeting or an errand scheduled immediately before or after - I know you women!).
- Get out your favorite writing tool (pen, pencil, markers, crayons) and some great writing paper (journal, colored paper, business pad, flip chart-my favorite).
- Get your favorite drink and anything else you might want that you don't want to get up for once you get started (Kleenex, hair scrunchy, whatever).
- Find and sit someplace that helps you be quiet with yourself (a comfortable chair, outside on the grass, next to a mountain or running water).
Now ...
- Breathe! Deeply. 3 times.
- Quiet your mind.
To Begin ...
- Set your intention to have the elements of your ideal environment be made clear to you. The context you choose for creating your ideal environment can be for your life overall (including home, work, travel, charity, whatever) or you can select just one area to focus on this time.
- Some examples: my husband and I did this for each room in our home, people in companies have used this to develop their workspaces and cultures, and I did this as I created the vision for my business.
Think about your ideal environment and ask yourself these questions:
- What do you see? What do you hear? What do you smell? What are you touching?
- How do you feel when you are in this environment?
- What are you doing? What are others doing?
- How do you feel about those behaviors?
What did you come up with? Are you inspired? Are you sad? Whatever feelings you are having are ok. This is just an opportunity for you to start uncovering what would be "perfect" just for you. Once you know it, two things happen. One, you are more aware of the things you already have in your life that reflect your ideal and you can enhance them and let gratitude and appreciate fill your heart. Two, you can be intentional and make changes that help you more fully experience your ideal environment.
Enjoy the discovery, take action, and be patient!
