Did
you know you could own a Picasso? At a
recent Christie's auction house sale, some of Picasso's works sold for as low
as 300! Yep, I'm talking
about Pablo Picasso - this isn't a Pascale or Perry Picasso reproduction. Picasso's work is actually accessible to the
masses! Not only was Picasso a famed
artist with paintings well beyond my personal price-range, but he was also a
Studio Potter.
Rumor has it that in 1947 Picasso became obsessed with ceramics and continued
to spin the wheel until his death in 1973.
Using clay as a medium, Picasso turned the world on its axis, treating
ceramics as if they were an extension of his canvas, designing plates, jugs
& vases in animal shapes or depicting paintings of the body as only Picasso
could represent the human anatomy! He
was influenced by mythological and
classical themes as much as by the Iberian & Mediterranean due to his life
on the Coasta Diva.
And here's a fun fact for you: It was through pottery that Picasso met
Jacqueline Roque whom he eventually married and whisked away to Mougins, France
where Picasso & his "femme"
continued creating ceramics in wedded bliss, flooding the market with a fair
share of their creations at down-right reasonable prices. Which means next time you have a cocktail
party, you can serve Sangria in your Picasso jug and casually mention, "Did I tell you I just bought a Picasso?"
