It's easy to overspend and make impulse purchases when shopping at an outlet mall. Here are a few tips to help you keep things in check:

1. Determine how much money you are going to spend before leaving home.

2. Create a list of items you NEED. Remember, what you need and what you want are often 2 very different things.

3. Get to the mall when the stores open. The racks are usually freshly organized and the stores relatively empty and easy to navigate.

4. Think outside of the box. No one wants to buy boots when it's 80 degrees outside, but boots will be much cheaper when no one needs to wear them. Before you pass them up, ask yourself if come October you will regret not having them in your closet.

5. Cut yourself some slack. If you do find a really FAB pair of shoes that you'd never have the guts to pay full price for but they make your heart leap at 70% off, go for it. You only live once.
