Toasting a guest at your party this summer is a fabulous way to spread good cheer amongst your guests. Here are some tips to make sure you "toast like a pro":
1. Any beverage, other than cocktails, may be used; wine or water are preferred.
2. All of your guests should have a beverage in their glass before the toast.
3. When you are ready to toast, simply stand and say "May I have your attention please". Refrain from tapping your glass.
4. As host, you may make a welcome toast at the beginning of the meal; but toast your guest of honor before the dessert course, when champagne may be served.
5. If you are the guest of honor who is being toasted, do not drink immediately after the toast. Nod your head instead or say "thank you for the honor".
6. When touching glasses, the rim of your glass should be below the rim of the other person's glass if you wish to show respect to them.
