- Shop in Your Closet - Before you go shopping, take a couple of hours to shop in your closet and discover the hidden treasures you have. You may find that you don't really need that new suit. For example, you can modernize an old suit by having the sleeves shortened to length or the skirt narrowed. As you shop in your closet, determine what you need before you hit the stores to insure you don't get distracted with all of the great sales going on.
- Shop with Purpose - Before you go shopping, take a moment to think about what you plan to purchase, make a list and determine how much you plan to spend on each item.
- Keep Track of Your Purchases & Expenditures - Keep a written tally of your expenditures, save all of your receipts and make yourself familiar with the stores return policy. If you have to return an item, having the original receipt will help to make the process go smoothly. In addition, having your receipt will make it easier to get a price adjustment if an item you purchase goes on sale or gets marked down further (each store has its own policy on price adjustments, so be sure to ask about it at the time of purchase). And lastly, keep records of any online purchases and estimated delivery dates.
