When shopping for antiques there is one easy question that even people who hate to bargain can easily ask. After the vendor has given you the price on your desired item ask, "Is that your best price?" Often they will offer 10-15% discount within seconds of the question tumbling from your mouth.

If you are antique shopping abroad, after asking for the best price, follow up with the question, "Is that the price for export?" Export prices exclude VAT (Value Added Tax) which in France is about 19.6% of the profit. Asking this later question can often take off an additional 5-10% of the original asking price saving your Euros for more shopping opportunities!

Lastly if the vendor isn't willing to bargain on one item, ask him to make a bigger discount on a second item. Many vendors will give better discounts the more you buy!
