1. Everyone sweats. If you pit out, remember that it's happened to the best of us. Don't worry about it, the more anxious you are about it the more you will sweat. Do your best to think cool thoughts and whatever you do, don't clamp your arms to your sides - you'll just sweat more and the stains will never dry.

2. Dress shields really do help prevent pit stains and will help you from ruining that favorite dress or top. Google "dress shields" to find a brand that will work for you. In a pinch, tape tissue over the armpits of your top to create the same absorbent effect.

3. Use a mixture of vinegar and baking soda to get sweat stains out of cotton and wool. Create a paste with the two ingredients, turn the garment inside out and coat the stain with the paste. Let it sit for at least an hour to harden. Then flake it off and wash or dry clean the garment.

4. Go sleeveless! It may seem counterintuitive, but for some going sleeveless means no more pit stains. Sometimes all it takes is a little a/c for your underarms to keep things in control.
