So, you're using your shopping dollars wisely, and even though you are dying to slip into sundresses and sandals, you're being smart with your money and investing in a coat or boots that will take you through the next couple of seasons. But how do you know the style won't, well, go out of style?

The biggest tip I can give you - buy neutral. In the same way that the black dress I highlighted this month can be dressed up or down with accessories, you can do the same with your boots and coats. Buy a solid color peacoat and then add a cute pair of gloves, hat and scarf (or even a brooch) and it has a whole new look (and saves you serious cash). Invest in a neutral brown or black boot and you'll find you can wear them with everything from skirts to jeans.

Absolutely, fun pieces have a place in your wardrobe (and with the sales out there right now you can probably find a staple and a trendy piece for a reasonable price) but when it comes to buying key pieces, pieces that you will wear several times a week, you want to be sure they are neutral and versatile enough to work with the majority of your wardrobe.
