Summer is quickly approaching, the flowers are blooming and the heat is starting to rear it's ugly head! The economy is in such a sad state and the gas prices are rising. Hopefully, you are not pulling your hair out in frustration wondering what to do with your little ones all summer. Every parent wants their child to be happy the minute they open their eyes each morning. Many parents panic if they don't have a planned activity for every minute of the day.
Please don't worry, it's okay to relax! Some of the best memories come from spur of the moment fun. Take time to smell the roses, breathe in their wonderful perfume. Marvel at the little miracle you have created, seeing her blossom and grow! Watch your eyes sparkle and your lips turn up into a tremendous smile of gratitude and love.
You don't need to go out and buy every new toy on the market. You don't need to rent the newest video. And you don't need to stress that there may be many minutes in the day when a planned activity just isn't there. Once you get used to it ... you will be surprised that having nothing planned can really be a luxury!
When was the last time you sat with your baby in your lap and read a story without worrying that you had to get her ready for the next activity? When was the last time you stayed in your PJ's until noon and just sat on the floor and played and giggled together? When was the last time you let your little helper mix the pancake batter or sprinkle some cinnamon on her toast? Sharing these special times is what life is all about!
These days our world is so fast-paced and filled with so many stresses that many of us never had to deal with. Lost jobs, home foreclosures, school closings, need I go on. It's so frustrating when we can't control what's going on in the outer world. But we can control our inner world and our attitudes. It's so important to enjoy each and every minute of the day. What a gift! Reading, telling stories, laughing, singing, dancing, just sharing your love doesn't cost a thing. And believe me, your little one will remember mommy and daddy dancing around the room with him much more than going to a store to buy a new toy. So turn on some music, put on those dancing shoes and start making warm, wonderful memories!! At the end of each summer's day, think of three things you are thankful for, feel the gratitude and love, but most of all your smiling heart!
