So, you've been invited out to dinner by your secret admirer and you're wondering how to impress your fabulous man this Valentine's Day. Here's a few tips that are sure to catapult you into second date status.

1. On a first date, the person who issued the invitation is the one who pays for the date. However, it is polite to offer to pay your share of the bill when it arrives. During my first date with my future husband, I offered to pay the bill and he took me up on the offer! We still laugh about his indiscretion to this day.
2. Keep all eyes on your date and refrain from checking other people out when you are with him. He should be the center of your universe.
3. Appear happy and upbeat. Positive energy is contagious. The more positive you are, the more positive your evening will be.
4. Show affection, but avoid being clingy. Proper public displays of affection include holding hands, hugging and light kissing.
5. Let the conversation flow between the two of you. Conversation should be like a tennis match - one person speaks, then the other person speaks, etc. Avoid monopolizing the conversation especially when the topic is you. Talking solely about yourself makes you appear self-centered.
6. Positive conversation only. Leave your exes out of the conversation. Your date doesn't want to hear about your ex, nor will he want to get a play by play of any arguments you may have had. Focus on your future.
7. Avoid getting intoxicated. We do silly things when we drink so it's best to limit yourself to one to two drinks.
8. Let your date know if you are uninterested in a relationship. Leading him on will only lead to further hurt and confusion in the future.
9. Traditional dating etiquette suggests that your date should walk on the outside of the street to protect you from being splashed. They may want to walk on the inside to protect you from being mugged. Where your date stands depends on your circumstances. Do you want to avoid getting splashed or getting mugged?
10. Women should precede men through doorways but men should proceed women through a revolving door, down stairs, into a boat and off a bus.
11. You know you are dating a gentleman when he opens the door for you and helps you get out of the car.
