Living Green
14 year environmental marketing, championing green initiatives across the country!

In 1996, Charlotte King relocated her Marketing Communications firm to Atlanta Georgia, took on a pro bono marketing project for a local parks group. This modest beginning was a transition from a 20-year corporate communications career to "all things green".

Charlotte started her career as a marketing communications project manager for one of the largest communications companies in the country, Maritz Communications in St.Louis, Missouri. Her marketing career has been punctuated by projects for Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom promotion for Seven-Up, a Bill Cosby video for IBM, directing the nationwide Shell Oil customer service project "Customer Care". She has developed marketing communications for Alcoa Aluminum, Motorola, Payless Shoes, Amoco Oil, and Coca-Cola.

Her firm, Snowden & King Marketing Communications, is considered the recognized expert for environmental marketing for parks, trees, green space and forestry in the United States having worked with over 300 tree organizations. Their clients include The Georgia Forestry Commission, Park Pride Atlanta, the National Urban & Community Forestry Advisory Council (NUCFAC), Tree New Mexico, The National Arbor Day Foundation, The United States Forest Service, The North Carolina Urban Forestry Council, Penn State Cooperative Extension, The Alliance for Community Trees, Kentucky Urban Forest Council, and many others. Charlotte is a frequent keynote speaker at green-related conferences, colleges, and universities.

An example of her results-based environmental marketing is launching a statewide "tree-topping prevention" campaign in Pennsylvania which reached 1.2 million consumers and crashed the forestry website. She's also proud of a statewide Tree City USA campaign for Arkansas which made it the fastest-growing Tree City program in the country for 3 years running. "If it's not results producing, it's just buzz", she says.

In 2005 Snowden & King launched "Marketing Zone", a national environmental marketing trade magazine, "linking business and the environmental community together". Most recently, Charlotte King was appointed to the Georgia Conservancy Board of Directors and is 2007 alumni of The Georgia Environmental Leadership (IGEL) Fellowship Program.

She is one of the first recipients of the Proctor & Gamble, "My Black is Beautiful Awards" for her environmental work. She is a business leader, a 2003 alumni of Leadership Atlanta, and serves on the board of the United Way of Atlanta, one of the top 5 largest United Ways in the country. A long-time United Way leader she also chairs the United Way 211 Advisory Council, past President of the United Way VIP Program, and Chairperson of the United Way Small Business Group. She is a 23-year member of the Junior League and has served as a regional director for the Association of Junior Leagues International.

Charlotte lives in Atlanta, Georgia with her husband, Steven and her dog, Quincy Jones - who doesn't quite believe he's a dog. Even her dog has learned to be a green advocate and has learned NOT to pee on trees!
