Wow! Jennifer Anniston looks so terrific in those nude photos she did for Gentleman's Quarterly? How can we feel good about ourselves when we are continually compared to our culture's image of beauty? The problem and the solution lie within us. We fixate on our physical traits as we berate our thighs, our breasts, our hair, our weight and any other perceived unorthodox trait that makes us feel terrible about our appearance. But, in moments of complete honesty, we recognize that we feel terrific whenever someone notices that we have been thoughtful and kind. An employee we helped puts flowers on our desk; we overhear a son or daughter telling a peer that his/her parents are great; we get a strong hug from a friend to acknowledge our mere presence; our supervisor gives us a recommendation filled with praise. Isn't it strange that these terrific 'feel-good' moments are defined by our human behaviors and have absolutely nothing to do with our looks?
Here is an easy solution. Find ways to increase the moments when we can be recognized as 'terrific human beings.' Instead of focusing on the physical traits that we lack, increase our efforts to help others. Maybe that is what people mean when they say, "find your inner beauty." Perhaps your inner beauty is really your inner concern for others, and it is manifested in outward acts of kindness.
Acknowledge and honor your body for all it does rather than what it is or isn't. You aren't supposed to look like everyone else because then no one would be able to find you and thank you for your kind thoughts or actions.
That is your beauty. By claiming that, you will feel confident and attractive. You will know your real beauty and be able to sniff at what Hollywood and the fashion industry may tell you. You don't need to change a thing about your body because its ability to respond and act is what has given you the opportunity to express your inner beauty.
When
I see women in my salon juve` I find myself
responding to their inner beauty, which is evidenced in their self-confidence,
tranquility and ... outward appearance.
TIPS:
Forgive yourself for not being perfect!
Look for the good in others; when you find it, tell them!
Acknowledge the abundance in which you live!
